PESCAO Project :
As part of the strengthening of its fisheries Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MCS) activities, the Sub-regional Fisheries Commission (SRFC) had requested in august 2015, through ECOWAS, support from the European Union (EU) for the financing of a sub-regional project to fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing under component 1 (peace and security) of the Regional Indicative program for west Africa financed by the 11th European Development fund (11th EDF).
In response to this request, the EU adopted, in 2017, the project Improvement of Regional Fisheries Governance in West Africa (PESCAO) which has the overall objective of improving regional fisheries governance in western Africa through better coordination of national fisheries policies.
Subsequently on 3th may, 2018, the EU granted a direct grant to the SRFC under n FED/2018/392-671 -contribution to the prevention and responses of IUU fishing by the improvement of the MCS at national and regional levels – for the implementation of project outcome 2 activities with the technical support of the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA)/
